_mg_8751Business and industry stakeholders are representatives from those sectors that have an interest in young people's education, training and career pathways. Some of these stakeholders include local employers, industry groups, apprenticeship services, Chambers of Commerce, trade unions, local government and government departments.

Most, if not all, of these stakeholders have an interest in ensuring that our young people recieve access to appropriate education and training options that will lead them into successful and sustainable careers.

Why we partner with business and industry

Business and industry have a vested interest in participating in partnerships that support the development of young people and/or the organisations that work with our local young people. By contributing to the development of young people business and industry can assist in shaping their future workforce's skills, reduce the impact of skills shortages, increase youth and community awareness of emerging skills needs, build relationships within the community, build community capacity and demonstrate their role as a good corporate citizen.

Our business and industry partnerships and projects

We work with business and industry in a variety of ways including the coordination of networks, developing partnerships, providing research opportunities or undertaking research to assist them, and initiating locally needed projects or programs.

For details about our current business and industry partnerships and projects visit the Business and Industry Partnerships page.

Key Priorities

Our research has identified the following as key priorities that we will partner with business and industry to address in the immediate term:

  • Supporting local Health Care and Social Assistance employers (eg. aged care facilities, hospitals and medical centres, child care services and community organisations) to build partnerships with local schools. In doing so, these employers will be in a position to introduce educators and students (as well as their parents and families) to the array of careers and jobs available in this key employment sector.
  • Supporting local Manufacturing employers to build partnerships with local schools. In doing so, these employers will be in a position to introduce educators and students (as well as their parents and families) to the array of careers and jobs available in this key employment sector.
  • Supporting local Construction and Property Services employers to build partnerships with local schools. In doing so, these employers will be in a position to introduce educators and students (as their parents and families) to the array of careers and jobs available in this key employment sector.
  • Increase student participation in health and community service, metals and engineering, and building and construction applied learning programs and workplace exposure.
  • The need to build partnerships that increase knowledge of and access to education, training and employment in emerging career areas such as 'green skills' and biotechnology.
  • Increasing opportunities for business and schools to build partnerships that are sustainable and mutually satisfying.
