Community Groups PDF Print E-mail

community-groups_Community group stakeholders are all those organisations that aim to enhance the overall wellbeing of children and young people so that they can achieve their potential.

The types of community groups the BGK LLEN works with is a very broad mix.  However, some of these groups working within the areas of welfare, housing and homelessness, drug and alcohol counselling, relationships, juvenile justice, health, mentoring, youth and environmental leadership and recreation.

Why we partner with community groups

We work with many community groups because, like us, they too are committed to ensuring that all young people reach their potential, no matter what their cirumstances might be.

We also work with community organisations because they have the right skills and knowledge to provide expert assistance to young people. The partnerships we form with these groups aim to harness resources and build social capital so that a holistic approach to supporting young people can be achieved.

Community group partnerships and projects

We work with community groups in a variety of ways including the coordination of networks, developing partnerships, providing research opportunities or undertaking research to assist them, and initiating locally needed community projects.

For details about our current community group partnerships and projects visit the Community Group Partnerships page.

Key priorities

Our research has identified the following as key priorities that we will partner with community groups to address in the immediate term:

  • The need to ensure that community organisations receive current information about education, training and employment so that they can assess how this information might intersect with other youth issues and affect their client groups.
  • The need to support existing regional provider networks and augment their already good work through consultation and research support.
  • Breaking down the barriers imposed by competitive funding approaches and contractual obligations.
  • The need to build upon the success of the Bayside Youth Charter by expanding its philosophy and approach into neighbouring regions.
  • The need to increase the adoption of youth leadership and participation practices within community organisations as an approach that supports youth development, empowerment, community connections and responsibility.
  • Increase opportunities for community organisations and schools to build partnerships that are sustainable and mutually satisfying.

Community group events

Our Events Calender lists a wide range of both BGK LLEN and partner events of relevance to anyone connected to, or interested in community development and related youth support.

Community group research

Our Research Library houses a range of resources of relevance to anyone connected to, or interested in, community development and youth topics.

The BGK LLEN is also interested in partnering with community groups to undertake research that fits within our strategic objectives and will benefit the region.  Please contact the BGK LLEN if you would like to discuss research opportunities.
