The Transitions Network is led by the BGK LLEN and includes partners from education providers, industry, youth and welfare organisations. This Network meets regularly to explore the issues relating to youth transitions and identify ways in which we can collaboratively work together to create or sustain programs aimed at enhancing young peoples' passage through their upper primary and secondary years of schooling.

Projects

  • Secondary School Conversations - is a program that enables parents of children in Years 4 – 6 to come together and discuss issues, ask questions and share stories about their child's upcoming transition from primary school to secondary school. The BGK LLEN is partnering with local youth transition organisation 'Youth Connect' and Mordialloc Secondary College to develop and deliver this program in 2011 and beyond. Upcoming program delivery dates are available on our Events Calendar.
  • Who, What, Where handbook – prepared by the BGK LLEN, was developed for 15 – 19 year olds, and provides information about the final years of schooling, post-school education and training, work, money management, housing, rights and responsibilities as a young adult, driving, health and relationships. The handbook provides both information and a guide to local services. While the book's primary audience is young people it is also a useful reference or referral guide for parents, organisations and community members. • Community PACTS Program - is a workshop for parents, carers, grandparents or anyone who wants to support a young person with education and career pathways directions and decisions.  The session provides an overview of the wide array of education and training pathways available to young people - such as secondary school options (VCE, VCAL, School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeship) and post-school options (TAFE, University and apprenticeships). Facilitated by Youth Connect, the PACTS workshop is a great way to learn about the current education and training system in a relaxed community environment. Upcoming program delivery dates are available on our Events Calendar.
  • Transitions Help Sheets - The BGK LLEN Transition Network has created a set of 'Transition Help Sheets'. These Help Sheets have been designed to assist students, families, careers counsellors, secondary school teachers, TAFEs, community organisations and employers.  The Help Sheets provide information, advice and tips about a variety of transitions that take place during a young person's education and training years.  To access a 'Transition Help Sheets' click on the PDF link below:
