Community VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) programs are offered in a range of settings including TAFEs, Adult and Community Education centres and youth services centres. The Community VCAL is a VCAL program offered to eligible 15-19 year olds but delivered in non-school settings and supported by a school and community partnership rather than a school alone.

Community VCAL targets young people who are disengaged from education, training and employment. The key attraction of Community VCAL is its out-of-school setting and the flexibility available to non-school providers who deliver the program.

Westall Community VCAL

Westall Community VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) is a full time re-engagement program aimed at assisting young people aged 15-19 years to re-connect with education and training and a recognised qualification, while taking into consideration individual learning and support needs, such as the provision of child care. The Westall CVCAL used to be known as LEEP.

There is an emphasis on adult learning principles and flexible delivery. The aim of the Foundation, Internediate and Senior levels of VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) is to re-engage young people in appropriate learning and training pathways and employment opportunities.

All young people are enrolled as students of Westall Secondary College while the program is delivered in community settings.

The Westall Community VCAL program is situated at two venues; the Doveton Neighbourhood Learning Centre and the Mordialloc Neighbourhood House. These settings provide students with an excellent opportunity to connect and work with the wider community. Small enrolment numbers also support individual learning needs.

The program offers the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). This is a nationally recognised senior secondary qualification. The curriculum is developed through an approach to relevant issues such as health and wellbeing, current affairs and working with the wider community.

The VCAL strands focus on developing literacy and numeracy skills, personal development and work readiness skills. The program is designed to assist young people to make a successful move into adulthood.

Students complete a work placement one day a week as a part of their learning program. This provides students with the opportunity to develop work readiness skills that will assist them in making a successful transition into further education, training and employment.
