Youth Commitment

The BGK LLEN in collaboration with the three other Southern Metropolitan Region (SMR) LLEN, the SMR Department of Education and Training and the SMR Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE) are at the beginning of the journey to embed a Youth Commitment in our region. The Youth Commitment is being implemented across the state. Already there is a Grampians Education Partnership, a Western Youth Futures, a Whittlesea Youth Commitment and the LLENs in the Eastern Metropolitan Region (Stonnington, Boroondara, Port Phillip, Monash, Manningham, Whitehorse, Yarra Ranges, Knox, and Maroondah) have made a start towards Youth Commitment there.

The elements of the Youth Commitment framework are:

  • Inclusive education provision arrangements to engage young people in learning to Year 12 or its equivalent
  • Supportive intervention for those students identified as potential early leavers to prevent early leaving
  • Transition support for early leavers to and between educational and training providers or employment with structured training
  • Identification of and provision of reintegration support for early leavers, who have disengaged from formal learning.
The core work of the BGK LLEN over the next year and beyond will be working towards a Youth Commitment in the region and calling on all stakeholders and members to become a part of the initiative.

If you or your organisation would like to become actively involved in this region’s Youth Commitment, please contact the BGK LLEN office.
